Doctrine and Covenants of the Final Restoration
On the Order of the Quorums
Given through Christopher Glenn Marriott at Huntington Beach, California, early in the establishment of the church. This revelation, given before the official organization of the church was fully set in order, contains an earlier instruction on the governance of the quorums which differs in one particular from Section 5. It is preserved here in full as part of the record of the church, that the history of how this organization came to be may be known.
Hearken unto me, my servant Christopher, for I will speak unto thee concerning the order of the quorums of the church, that the body may be organized in righteousness.
The Quorum of the Twelve shall be presided over by a president chosen from among their number by the voice of that quorum, and he shall hold authority over that quorum equal to that of the President of the church in all matters pertaining to their specific calling among the nations.
And the First Presidency shall consist of the President and Prophet and two counselors, and their authority over the church shall be full and complete in all things.
Now I say unto thee: in the earlier word given to thee, the authority of the president of the twelve was described more broadly. Let it be understood that the order now set forth in this section is the order as I would have it stand. The earlier word was given in the morning of this work when the full order was not yet unfolded, and this word is the fuller light.
For thus it is with the revelations of God: I do not give all light at once, for the vessel must be prepared to receive it. As the saints grow in faith and obedience, more is given, and the early words are not destroyed but are sometimes corrected or enlarged by later ones.
The president of the quorum of the twelve shall therefore exercise authority in the preaching of the gospel among all nations and shall report to and be subject to the First Presidency in all things.
Let the record show both words, that the history of this church may be known in plainness, and that no man can say the record was hidden from him.
Even so. Amen.
