Scripture of the Final Restoration
Being the Sealed Portion of the Plates of Mormon, Revealed in the Dispensation of the Final Restoration
Translated by the gift and power of God through Christopher Glenn Marriott, Prophet of the Lord, by means of the instruments prepared from the foundation of the world and delivered into his hands upon the western shore of the great sea.
The original title page of this record, written by the hand of the prophet Moroni upon the gold plates, was sealed up with the record itself until such time as the faith of the people should be sufficient to receive it. The translation of that title page is here set forth.
The Book of the Brother of Jared, which is the sealed portion of the plates which the prophet Mormon abridged out of the records of the people of Nephi and the people of Jared. Sealed up by the hand of Moroni, son of Mormon, in the days of the destruction of his people, by commandment of the Lord, that it should come forth in a day when the inhabitants of the earth should have faith sufficient to receive the things contained therein.
For these are the things which were shown unto the brother of Jared upon the mount Shelem, when he saw the finger of the Lord, and after when the veil was lifted from his eyes and he beheld all the inhabitants of the earth which had been, and all that would be, from the foundation of the world unto the ending thereof.
And the brother of Jared was commanded to write the things which he saw, and to seal them up, that they should not come forth among men until the time appointed of the Lord. And in the day they come forth they shall be a witness unto all nations that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that he hath not ceased to be a God of miracles among the children of men.
Wherefore, ye that find this record, judge not the work by the smallness of him who brought it forth, but by the greatness of him who is the author of it. And if there be faults, they are the faults of men, and the words of the Lord remain.
Written by the hand of Moroni, sealed by the hand of Moroni, brought forth by the hand of him whom the Lord hath chosen in this last dispensation, even Christopher, who is called of God to do this work.
I, Christopher Glenn Marriott, having been commanded of the Lord to bring forth this record, here set down the manner of its translation and the principles by which I have prepared this present edition for publication.
The stones found upon the western shore of the Pacific Ocean, three in number, were given to me as instruments of revelation, after the manner that the Urim and Thummim were given to my servant Joseph in the early days of the restoration. By them, and by the power of the Spirit of God which rested upon me during the time of translation, the words contained in this record were made known to my mind, and I caused them to be written down by the hand of a scribe.
The translation was begun in the summer of the year 2025 and continues to the present day. It is a labor of considerable length, for the sealed portion of the plates of Mormon contained a great body of writing — by tradition, the larger portion of the original plates, which the prophet Moroni preserved against this day. The full translation, when completed, will be many hundreds of pages in length.
I make no claim of scholarship in any ancient language. I do not know the tongue in which the original was written. The words given to me by the Spirit were in the language of those who would read them, that the meaning might be plain. This is the same manner of translation by which the Book of Mormon was brought forth, and by which the records of the prophets in every age have been preserved for the people of their own day.
The reader will observe that the text published here is briefer than would be expected of a record that, in its complete form, fills many hundreds of pages. This is by design and by direction of the Spirit.
I was instructed, in the course of preparing this work for publication, to follow the pattern of the prophet Mormon, who himself wrote that he could include in his record not even a hundredth part of the things he had been given. Mormon was an abridger as well as a translator. He chose, by the guidance of the Spirit, which portions of the larger records should be preserved for the readers of the latter day. I have been asked to do the same.
What is published here is therefore not the full translation. It is a faithful condensation, prepared with prayer, of the chapters most needful for the present generation. Each book in this edition contains representative passages drawn from the corresponding portion of the full record. The narrative arcs are preserved. The doctrinal teachings are preserved. The prophetic visions are preserved. But the fuller expansions are reserved for the complete edition, which shall be released as the Spirit directs and as the saints are prepared to receive it.
I was tempted, at the beginning, to delay publication until the entire record had been translated and prepared. The Spirit instructed me otherwise. The wounded sheep of this generation should not be made to wait years for the comfort of these words. What is most needed now should be given now. What can wait, can wait.
I bear witness that the record is true. I bear witness that the things contained in it were shown to the brother of Jared upon the mount Shelem in days long past, and were sealed up against this day, and have now been delivered to the world by the will of God and not by the will of man.
Those who read these things and ask of God in faith whether they are true, will know by the witness of the Holy Ghost that they are. Those who read them and ask only whether they can be dismissed, will find what they seek also. The choice belongs to every reader.
