Doctrine and Covenants of the Final Restoration
On the Care of the Body
Given through Christopher Glenn Marriott at Huntington Beach, California, Summer 2025. A revelation on the care of the body, given in answer to the question of my servant concerning the health of the saints and whether God had any word for the church in this matter.
Verily I say unto you, the body is a gift, and I the Lord do not give gifts to be wasted. The spirit and the body are the soul of man, and I intend the reunion of spirit and body in the resurrection, which should tell you plainly how I regard the body during the years of mortal life.
Wherefore I give unto the saints of the Final Restoration a word of counsel, not by way of commandment or constraint, but as a father speaks to those he loves and wishes to see prosper.
Strong drink, by which I mean drink that has in it the power to steal reason from a man, is not good for the body of man nor for his spirit, and those who make a practice of it will find that it takes from them more than they understand they are giving.
Tobacco and all things taken into the body for the purpose of altering the mind, which are not given for medicine and healing, are likewise not ordained for man.
Hot drinks taken to excess dull the senses and breed dependence where dependence ought not to be.
All wholesome plants and grains and fruits are given for the use of man, and flesh also, in times of cold and need, and with thanksgiving.
And he that keepeth this counsel and walketh in obedience to the commandments shall find that his body is strong and his mind clear and his years many. And I the Lord promise moreover that the destroying angel shall have no power over him, and he shall not be weary in running, and shall walk and not faint.
But hear me in this: I do not make of this counsel a gate by which men are judged worthy or unworthy of my presence. The institution that preceded this one used the keeping of this law as a condition of entering its most sacred spaces, and thereby used a counsel of health as an instrument of control. That is not my purpose. My purpose is the health and the joy of my people. A man who drinks coffee and loves God and his neighbor stands in better account with me than a man who drinks no coffee and loves no one.
Keep these things in wisdom and in order, and be not compelled by one another in matters of the body, but leave room for the Spirit to work in every man's own time.
Even so. Amen.
