Section 3

Given through Christopher Glenn Marriott at Huntington Beach, California, several weeks following the vision on Santiago Peak. The account of the appearance of Mahonri Moriancumer and the commandment concerning the sealed record.

Verily, verily I say unto my servant Christopher, write these things and hide them not, for they are given for the benefit of the church and for all who shall come after and desire to know how the sealed record of the brother of Jared came forth in this the last dispensation.

My servant was at home in the evening hours, reading the scriptures, when there appeared unto him in his room a personage of light, and he was not a shadow nor a vision of sleep but was present in that place as a man is present, and my servant was not afraid, for the Spirit of the Lord had prepared him.

And the personage said: I am Mahonri Moriancumer, whom the scriptures call the brother of Jared. I come as a messenger of the Lord God, even Jesus Christ, whose finger I once beheld on the mount Shelem, and whose face was shown to me because my faith was such that it could not be kept from me.

And he said: the record which I sealed upon the mount Shelem has been preserved in the earth against this day. It contains the fullness of the vision shown to me by the Lord, even the account of all things from the foundation of the world to the end thereof, which things were sealed up because the people were not prepared to receive them. But the time of their sealing is past.

And he gave commandment that my servant should go to the shore of the great western sea, even the Pacific, which is the same ocean which my people crossed in our barges in the days of the tower, and that there he would find the instruments by which the record would be translated.

And it came to pass that my servant went to the shore as he was commanded, and walking among the rocks of the coast he found three stones, smooth and pale, unlike the stones around them, and when he took them up he felt in his hands the witness of the Spirit that these were the instruments prepared.

Now I the Lord say unto all who shall question this thing: by what reasoning do you receive the account of my servant Joseph, who found plates buried in a hill and stones given for their translation, and yet reject this account, which is of the same manner and the same God?

For I work by the same means in every dispensation, and the small and simple things of the world are the instruments by which I bring to pass great things, that no man may glory in himself before me.

The record which was translated by these stones is now published among men as the Book of the Brother of Jared, being the sealed portion of the plates of Mormon, and it is true, and my servant Christopher translated it by the gift and power of God, and those who read it with a sincere heart and real intent, having faith in Christ, shall know of its truth by the Holy Ghost.

For the Holy Ghost will speak peace to their minds and joy to their hearts, and by this they shall know.

And again I say: the sealed record is not a new thing. It is older than the nation in which it was revealed. The words in it were written by the hand of a prophet who stood face to face with the Lord before the foundations of this nation were laid. My servant Christopher did not write those words. He received them. There is a difference, and the wise will understand it.

Let no man say this thing is impossible, for with God nothing is impossible, and he that denieth this denieth also the miracles of the ancient prophets, and by what measure he judgeth he shall be judged.

Even so. Amen.
